As the Fifth Company’s Commanding Officer, in charge of 138 cadets, and the Girls Track Team senior leader, and Black Student Union Officer, Cadet Maame Manu is force to be reckoned with. The drive that she hones in the pursuit of being an effective student, a confident leader, a mentor and soon to be medical student is felt among the Naval Science Department leadership and teaching staff.
Her cordial spirit intertwined with her captivating presence, has become the hallmark, or better yet, the embodiment of what discipline and honor is for DMA. Her personal dedication has always reflected great credit upon herself and is in keeping the highest traditions of DMA and the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Program. God’s speed and blessings to you, Cadet Manu.

NOVEMBER SHINING SEAHAWKS
FRESHMAN: Cadet Nunzio Roca has been nominated by Ms. Scott. From his first day at DMA, Cadet Roca has demonstrated extraordinary effort, kindness, and leadership inside and outside the classroom. Each day he comes into class ready to learn and to tackle the content. He takes charge of his own learning by showing others that it is okay to be confused sometimes and asking questions for clarification. On multiple occasions, I have overheard him explaining concepts to other cadets when they are confused and encouraging others to try their best. Cadet Roca is a friend to all and is always ready to work with anyone in the class no matter if he knows them or not. His kindness towards his peers and his teachers shows every class, every day. Cadet Roca leads others to be kind and work hard, which makes him a stellar top DMA cadet. Congratulations Cadet Roca!
SOPHOMORE: Cadet Nathan Wesberry has been nominated by not only his math teacher, but by his entire Honors Algebra 2 second block class, for his character, contributions, and leadership in the classroom. With two honors classes and an AP class on his schedule this fall, this top-notch cadet earned high marks during the first marking period to remain top in his class. Since the start of the school year, Nathan has not only consistently landed amongst the highest scores of all Algebra 2 students, but has helped so many others to work to their highest potential. He can often be found during free time with his head in a Calculus textbook to learn higher math on his own, and can also be found during group work helping to keep others on track. DeltaMath has met its match with Nathan being the first to complete it each week since the first day of school. As soon as Nathan is finished his own independent work he drops his pencil and heads around the room to help others as needed… He will certainly make a fine math teacher someday should he choose that noble route. He seeks out challenges outside of the curriculum, and is taking an additional math class in the spring to jump ahead. Nathan joined the senior math league team this year as a sophomore, helping the team to a first place ranking in the region. The Delaware Military Academy is better because of students like Cadet Wesberry, who certainly had a November to remember, and who is setting up both himself and the peers around him for greater things in the future. Congratulations Cadet Wesberry!

This is a remarkable achievement for a student of her age, reflecting both her intellectual curiosity and ability to contribute meaningfully to the field of research.

SEPTEMBER SHINING SEAHAWKS
FRESHMAN: Cadet Addison Varady has been nominated by Mr. Paradise. He says that Cadet Varady is the kind of student that makes teaching easy. Since starting at DMA, she has achieved high grades in each of her classes on her All-Honors schedule. She leads by example in class, and is always prepared, respectful, and enthusiastic. She is always the first to raise her hand and volunteer to participate, and she's daring enough to say what she's thinking, without any fear of being wrong. Cadet Varady isn't afraid to stand in front of her peers and take charge, which is a rare quality for a student of any age. Her boldness and positive, driven attitude make her worthy to be recognized as one of our Shining Seahawks. Congratulations Cadet Varady!
SOPHOMORE: Cadet Landon Spencer has been nominated by Mrs. Watkins. Typically, it is difficult to choose the first Shining Seahawk of the year since it's early on in the semester and as teachers, we are still getting to know the cadets' personalities. However, Mrs. Watkins found it easy to choose a cadet this year. Since day 1, Landon has come to English class and has given the best version of himself. He shows remarkable effort and ability on every assignment, and demonstrates a positive, upbeat attitude every single class. He is the first to add meaningful thought to discussions, and can always be counted on to raise his hand to participate. He is just the epitome (which is one of her vocab. words) of a student who is ready and willing to learn. His passion to always do his best and his love of English don't go unnoticed! Congratulations Cadet Spencer!
JUNIOR: Cadet Natalia Pulliam has been nominated by Mrs. Watkins as well. She says that she has the honor of teaching Natalia for a second time: first, as a sophomore last year in her Honors World Literature course, and now as a junior in my Murder, Mystery, and Mayhem elective. Natalia is a driven cadet who noticeably stands out from her peers for her dedication to her studies and her passion for learning. She goes out of her way to make others feel comfortable. In class, she is ready and willing to take on the role of any character in whatever is being read that day. And a special Shoutout to the best Juror 4 Mrs. Watkins has ever had for 12 Angry Men--Natalia was willing to get up and act things out and really add to the drama of the play! Natalia also has courage and willingness to try new things! This year she has been an important part of our school's pilot flag football program, and we can't wait to hear what she will do next! Natalia is the type of cadet that makes our job easy! Congratulations Cadet Pulliam!
