She excels in academics and sports, surrounds herself with positive influences, and has become a leader here at DMA. She comes to class ready to learn and pushes herself out of her comfort zone to participate in debates. She always has a positive attitude and is kind to everyone around her. When I think of a leader I think of Cadet Gonzalez. Even though we are in the homestretch of the school year, Cadet Gonzalez continues to work hard and to finish the year strong. She is a true example of a shining Seahawk.
SENIOR: Cadet Abigail Pankiw has been nominated by Mr. Townsend and Mrs. Dolan. Cadet Pankiw is finishing out her senior year on an incredibly high note, and with less than two months left until graduation she continues to make impactful contributions to her classrooms and the school community. With the AP Calculus exam 'right around the corner' Abby has maintained focus on her desire to achieve a qualifying score on the test in early May. As the workload has ramped up she does not complain about what needs to be done in order to be successful, and she makes corrections to assessments even if there is no impact to the grade. She has prioritized her education over many other distractions and detours that arise in the spring of senior year of high school, keeping her goal of being a neuroscientist in mind (pun intended). She also helped Mrs. Dolan organize both the winter and spring blood drives with tremendous and lasting success, hanging flyers around school, making announcements and sending Band notifications to promote the event. She helped her fellow National Honor Society members gain community service hours by offering volunteer hours for the blood drive to them, and has set the bar high for future organizers of the event here at the DMA. Thank you for all hard work and help, Cadet Pankiw, you are sincerely Shining Seahawk worthy!

FEBRUARY SHINING SEAHAWKS
FRESHMAN: Cadet Luis Triana has been nominated by Mr. Marin. Since the first week of school, Mr. Marin thought that cadet Luis Triana could be a Shining Seahawk. He could have written his nomination at that time but he knew that he had great potential and wanted him to develop that potential and really prove it.
And he did prove it! Academically his grade went from a B to a solid A. However, he is not nominated just because of his good grades, which are indeed very important. He is nominated because of his personal values. He is a great citizen, he helps other students kindly and discreetly; you would not notice it if you don’t pay close attention. He cares about his classmates and he is always ready to help. He has become a very active asset to my class and his presence improves the learning environment of my students. Congratulations Cadet Triana!

He genuinely cares about his fellow cadets, and he continuously sets the example on campus for all others to emulate. He shows great ambition and is always striving for the best, exemplifying true citizenship, scholarship, and leadership. Congratulations, Cadet Allin!
